Helloooooooooo!!

Well Hello There, long time no see!

Lots have things have kept me uber busy lately such as family visits, the obligatory shopping trips, making Christmas pressies and lots of other general festivities. As a result I have sadly neglected my poor old blog, I’ll just have to give it lots of tender loving care for a while to make up for it ;) I hope you have had a lovely Christmas and will have a fabulous New Year, my Christmas day was spent in bed as I fell victim to the glorious Norovirus on Christmas Morning but as I’m feeling much better now I shall surely make up for it on New Years Eve mwahahaha!

Unfortunately I completely forgot to photograph many of the things I made over Christmas but I managed to snap one of this years cards I sent out, I made this suspension card in few colour ways using a snowflake from set 5, some glitter effect papers from Dovecraft. I used some co-ordinating organza ribbons and my favourite embellishment for this year – Jingle Bells! I just love them and have added them to everything this year like they are going out of fashion.

These were the tags I attached to my gifts, As a typical crafter I like to use my scraps so I used up the circle cut outs and any spare snowflakes from the cards and added some scalloped circles and a little ribbon.

Some of the projects I didn’t manage to get posted will have to wait for next year now but this little box will be useful at any time of year. There is a cut file for those of you with digital cutting machines and a template version for those of you who don’t as it’s a simple enough shape to cut with scissors.

I made 24 of these little beauties, filled them with wrapped choccies and made a dispenser for them to be used as my Advent Calendar. I made a tall box and lid with a gap cut out at the bottom to pull them out in turn, as you take one from the bottom all of the ones above it fall down to fill the gap and you open the top to put the empty back in, simple and yummy :)

Well Hello There!

I have been MIA for a week or so due to what my fella calls ‘plague’, basically flu. Its nearly gone now so I’m keen to get back to it as Ive got a lot of catching up to do like family Christmas cards, this years advent calendar and a boat load of gift tags. I’ve also given myself a bit of a challenge with creating part of this years pressies for a couple of my family members too so if everything goes well I’ll be able to share those after the big day.

I have a cute little gift box for you today, I took a while to get it just right so it should be a perfect fit when you put it together. There is a printable (template) version and for those of you with digital cutting machines there is a cut file too.

I cut the box  about 10.5 inches long, just short of a full sheet of A4 (letter sized) and this gave me a 2.5 inch cubed box which is a great size for small gifts like jewellery but also small enough to hang on a Christmas tree. To make it easier for myself, I decorated the lid of my box before I assembled it starting with an eyelet in the back corner which I thread some seam binding through to hang it with. I tied a bow in some more seam binding and stuck it down with a glue dot just in front of the eyelet, added some gems in front of it then made up a paper poinsettia from this cut file and nestled it into my bow with another glue dot. All you need do to put the box together is fold the score lines, add some strong tape on the side tab, fold the bottom flaps together and you’re done.

Snowflake Suspension Card

Good Afternoon!

The weather has taken a bit of a Wintry turn here and I’ve caught the dreaded lurgy that’s going around so I’m staying in and keeping warm til it passes. I’m planning to start filming some of my card making again, I was doing it before by moving my craft table to the correct place each time but I’ve ordered a new table and I’ll have a go at setting it all up again later tonight. I love to watch video tutorials myself and find it so much easier to pick up ideas or learn new techniques that way so I’m looking forward to being able to do that again :)

Ok, so what do I have for today? New Snowflake sets!! I made 2 of these last year and I bet I’ll keep adding to them year on year as I love snowflake shapes. This year I have a set which I gave an ice crystal feel and 2 of the sets I designed to be embellished with gems so they have lots of circles within them. My fella said that they look a bit like molecular structures and I have to agree but they look much more like snowflakes once the gems have been added, honest ;)

I chose to try a suspension card today and took the colour inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room‘s Pastel Christmas challenge. I cut my card base to 5 inch square so I cut one of the scallop loop circles to 4 inches to give a reasonable border around it then I picked a nestabilities circle to match the inside of the scallop loop circle and made a circle in the center of the card base and my patterned paper. I attached the scallop loop circle to my patterned paper and stitched around the edges then stretched some clear invisible thread (any clear, white thread or fishing line etc would be great too) across the circle opening and stuck down with some strong tape. I added some seam binding to my patterned paper layer and stuck down to the card base to ‘sandwich’ the thread between the layer and card base. I cut 2 snowflakes of the same size from snowflake set 5 and glued either side of the thread, again ‘sandwiching’ the thread between the 2 of them. Once it was dry, I attached self adhesive gems to all of the circles on both sides of the snowflake. The combination of having very fine thread and the added weight of the gems makes the snowflake spin when you blow it, I just know the children in my family would love these, looks like I’m going to have to make quiet a few :)

Can you spot the thread?
