Fathers day card #2

Hiyah!

Oh Yes, 2 posts in as many days! I have another Fathers day card for you today, the Father-y bit is the waistcoat but I also have the card itself as a file for you too ‘cos I’m good like that ;) You can use today’s waistcoat in conjunction with yesterdays ties if you’d like and if you cut it in different patterns or colours of paper you could get very different looks for different people. I can just see this waistcoat cut in a pinstripe paper for a suit waistcoat look or in a green tweed for a more country-fied look, I however went for a leather effect for a biker in the family who wears one.

To put the card together I folded along the score lines on the top panel then stuck the very bottom of the tag shaped slider to the inside of the lowest scored section ensuring that the tag over hangs on both sides equally. The top and bottom panels can now be stuck together with thin tape giving the tag slider plenty of room to slide in and out. All the card needs at this point is a pop-up piece, I haven’t included one in the file so you can choose your own size to match your focal point or you may choose to use a spellbinders label etc, just remember to only attach it to the middle scored section.

Here’s a close up look at the effect I gave my waistcoat, I wanted an aged leather look so I cut the pieces in black card then covered in Versamark and sprinkled on some clear embossing powder. I blasted it with a heat gun but made sure to stop while it was still a bit pitted instead of continuing to heat until smooth as I wanted the uneven texture. Once cool, I roughed up the surfaces with an emery board to remove some of the shine and add to the aged look then pricked some holes around the edges of the shoulder pieces and the pockets to give a stitched feel. I added some brads to look like metal buttons/poppers and it was done.

Frugal Challenge 2 – Memo Board Card

Hello There!

It’s Frugal Challenge Time again and the item I’ve saved from going into the bin this time is some packaging material, it’s thin but dense and a bit spongy.

packaging

I often think about using this stuff as padding on a card but hadn’t come up with the right idea until now so, although my frugal item won’t be visible on my finished card, it will be a vital part of it. My idea was to make a Memo Board Card, basically scaling down a memo board using paper instead of fabric and attaching to the front of a card to add a personal message to the recipient.

memo board card

I cut my packaging material a tad smaller than a square of thin chipboard then covered with some gingham style paper to give it a fabric-y feel. I chose some ribbon that had a twill/webbing type quality to it which happily also has a stitched edge to give it an extra home spun feel and lay it across the panel, this was also attached to the back. I added some large brads to each ribbon intersection and closed them in tight to accentuate the padding then attached the whole panel to my card front. The last step was to add my message so I tucked Happy Birthday behind one of the ribbons and cut out the recipients name on my digital cutting machine and attached to some of the ribbons with little mini pegs.

So, no freebies for you today but I hope you enjoyed this idea, catcha next time :)

Birthday Wishes

Hey Guys :)

I’ve had a spot of the lurgy this week which is why I’ve been a bit quiet and it also meant that I had to take a break from the exercise bike for a couple of days but I still managed to lose over 5 pounds for the week so all is good!

I had trouble concentrating on anything too creative but I did have a pretty productive session taking my patterned paper scrap draw out and creating some backgrounds with them. I piled some of the co-ordinating papers together, then cut into strips and attached to some pre-cut pieces of card either horizontally or diagonally. The next day I sewed along all of the joins and ended up with some lovely background designs, it cleared some of my scraps and was very satisfying indeed. Here are the ones left over after today’s card which you’ll no doubt see popping up every now and then.

backgrounds

I’ve made a flourish cut files for you today, it was a request from a while back, also I have a digi sentiment for you too. I printed my sentiment in a dusky pink colour using this method to change the colour then cut with a nestability. I cut the same flourish twice, stuck together to make a symmetrical shape and placed behind one of my rolled flowers then popped onto my sentiment panel. I cut my decorative border 1 then added both the border and my sentiment panel onto one of the backgrounds shown above then finally added some seam binding ribbon and some flat backed pearls.
